Tribeca welcomes the Dutch
Three films from the Netherlands have been selected for the upcoming edition of the Tribeca Film Festival.
Feature film BLACK BUTTERFLIES, directed by Paula van der Oest and produced by IDTV Film, has been selected for the World Narrative Competition and will celebrate its international premiere.
Paula van der Oest and lead actress Carice van Houten will attend the festival. The film tells the true story of the talented young South African poet Ingrid Jonker, a white artist and critic of the Apartheid regime.
Dutch director Dick Maas (THE LIFT) will present his horror film SAINT for the first time to a North American audience. The film reimagines the kind-hearted Saint Nicholas as a bloodthirsty bishop, who every time there is a full moon on December 5, will rise from the dead and slaughter as many children as possible.
The short film BYE BYE SUPER 8, by Johan Kramer will be screened in the Shorts in Competition. The film is a tribute to the most popular Super-8 film ever, the Kodachrome 40 ASA, which is no longer produced. Kramer used the last 25 film rolls to take 25 portrait photos of 8-year-olds from all over the Netherlands.
