THE UNPLACEABLES selected for Locarno
July 24, 2013
The Dutch documentary The Unplaceables by director René Hazekamp is selected for the upcoming edition of the Semaine de la Critique, an independent section of the Locarno International Film Festival. Every year seven documentaries are invited for this prestigious programme, organized by Switzerland's National Association of Film Journalists.
The film is produced by René Hazekamp and Herman Slagter of Riverpark Films. The Unplaceables had its world premiere as part of the competition at IDFA in November and will compete in Locarno for the Prix SRG SSR/Semaine de la critique worth 8000.– CHF for the best film in competition and the Premio Zonta Club Locarno for a film with extraordinary social commitment.
The Unplaceables is about the need for imagination in order to live a fully human life. It focuses on two (ex)-addicts, Spijker and Dick Eckhard and their work and their attempts to gain control over their lives. The documentary shows how the world looks from their perspective, what gives them hope, the strategies they develop to survive and how their world reflects ours.
The Locarno International Film Festival and Semaine de la Critique take place August 7 -17:
