Sound of the Bandoneon, The
A lively, melancholic tribute to the bandoneón – the beating heart of the tango - threatened with extinction.
Rickels’ film is a search for the soul of the bandoneón, an instrument inextricably linked to Argentine tango and folk music. Old bandoneóns break down and new ones are hardly ever manufactured. Since tourists take them home, the bandoneón is in real danger of disappearing. Famous Argentine composer and player Néstor Marconi, playing in tango venues of Buenos Aires, tries to keep the bandoneón alive. A musical road movie showing a passionate struggle.
