THE NEW WILDERNESS reaches Platinum
October 28, 2013
Dutch film The New Wilderness, directed by Mark Verkerk en Ruben Smit has reached the status of Platinum Film for more than 400.000 tickets sold since its theatrical release in the Netherlands on September 26, 2013.
The New Wilderness has been shot in Oostvaardersplassen, a nature reserve in The Netherlands (Province of Flevoland) and it was filmed over a period of two years. The result is a wildlife film that hasn't been done in the Netherlands before. The film features Konik horses, Red Deer, Foxes and Heck cattle, just to name a few, battling for new territories and survival. A new wilderness has started. It is a paradise in the spring and summer times, but in the winter it transforms into a grim landscape. The food is scarce and the inhabitants of the new wilderness have to make vital life decisions. Only the strongest survive. The New Wilderness captures the circle of life in this unique landscape.
The Golden/Platinum/Diamond Film Award is awarded when the number of tickets sold after a film’s release reach 100.000, 400.000, and 1.000.000 respectively. The prize is an initiative presented by the Netherlands Film Festival and the Netherlands Film Fund since 2001 and is intended to encourage the Dutch film industry and motivate the general public to go and see Dutch films.
The New Wilderness is produced by EMS Films. The film is distributed in the Netherlands by Dutch Film Works.
