The Netherlands Filmplus Guest Country
November 13, 2012
The Netherlands is the guest country at Filmplus (November 23 - 26), the annual festival in Cologne focussed on the art of film editing. During the upcoming edition Filmplus introduces a new section Gastland (Guest Country), welcoming a different country and its film scene each year. The Netherlands will be the first country invited for this section.
In collaboration with the Netherlands Association of Cinema Editors (NCE), Filmplus is hosting an International Editors' Evening, during which the Dutch feature film R U There by David Verbeek will be presented. After the screening, Sander Vos, the editor of the movie will be interviewed by the renowned English/German editor Andrew Bird (a.o. Head-On by Fatih Akin). During the conversation, Bird will try to find out about similarities and differences in German and Dutch cinematic work and editing.
Since graduating from the Netherlands Film and Television Academy, Sander Vos has become one of the most acclaimed Dutch cinema editors. He has received many awards, among which the Golden Calf for Best Editor for Paradise Now by Hany Abu-Assad and Black Butterflies by Paula van der Oest.
The British-born Andrew Bird lives and works in Germany. Since the nineties he has worked regularly with Fatih Akin and other international directors, including Julie Delpy and Miranda July.
