THE CONDUCTOR in German theatres

21 September 2020

Dutch feature film The Conductor, written and directed by Maria Peters and produced by Shooting Star Filmcompany, is set to be released in German theatres.
The film will be released on 50 screens in Germany, starting with Mannheim on 22 September.

The Conductor has already been sold to 21 countries and has so far been released in theatres in among others South-Korea, Taiwan, Japan, France, Spain, Canada.
The Conductor world premiered at Films by the Sea International Film Festival Vlissingen 2018, and has won several awards, including the People’s Choice Award Best Narrative Feature from the Denver Film Festival and most recently it received the Audience Award Best Feature at the Sonoma International Film Festival.

Based on a true story, The Conductor is about Antonia Brico, the first woman to conduct successfully big symphony orchestras. In the 1920’s, Antonia Brico aspires to become the first woman to lead an orchestra but after she arouses the interest of Frank she is torn between ambition and love. She flees to Holland, where conductor Mengelberg tells her to see Karl Muck, who gets her accepted into the Berlin State Academy  of Music. Her debut is a success but the resulting furore forces her to return to the US, where the bias against women musicians inspires her to start a female orchestra.

Furthermore, the book Maria Peters has written about Antonia Brico, carrying the same title, is also having international success. The novel The Conductor has already been translated to eight languages and is nominated for the Euregio School Literature Award. A jury of high school students from 25 different countries will decide in February 2021 which of the 6 nominated books is the winner.

Director Maria Peters, leading actress Christanne de Bruijn, composer Quinten Schram (Composer) and producer Dave Schram will be present at the first five screenings in Germany:
22 September in Mannheim, Cinemaxx
23 September in Stuttgart, Cinema Bollwerk
24 September in Karlsruhe, Filmpalast am ZKM
