The Admiral reaches platinum

February 23, 2015

The Admiral (original title: Michiel de Ruijter) has reached the status of Platinum Film for 400.000 tickets sold since the release in national cinemas on January 29.

The Admiral is directed by Roel Reiné, written by Lars Boom and Alex van Galen, and produced by Farmhouse Film (NL) in co-production with Ciné Cri de Coeur (BE). International sales are handled by Arclight Films.

The Admiral ia about Michiel de Ruyter (1607-1676), one of the principal and most passionate innovators in the history of combat engineering, and consequently became a naval hero in Holland. As the deeply torn Netherlands is attacked from all sides, and seems on the verge of civil war, one man tries to fight for the interests of his country: Michiel de Ruyter. But in the eyes of those in power, his successes have made him too popular. Michiel therefore is sent on a deadly mission…

The Golden/Platinum/Diamond Film Award is an initiative presented by the Netherlands Film Festival and the Netherlands Film Fund since 2001. The prize is intended to encourage the Dutch film industry and motivate the general public to go and see Dutch films. The total number of admissions (resp. 100.000, 400.000, 1.000.000) determines whether a prize is awarded.
