Golden Films for two Dutch movies
October 18, 2012
Family film Sub. Sam and comedy Only Decent People have both reached the status of Golden Film. More than 100.000 tickets have been sold since the films' release in Dutch cinemas.
Sub. Sam, screening in national cinemas since October 3, is director Barbara Bredero’s first feature film. The script is by Tijs van Marle and PV Pictures produced the film.
Based on the highly popular series of children books Sub. Sam chronicles the funny misadventures of a young intern teacher at an elementary school. Tobias doesn’t really mind when his teacher, Miss Sanne, goes on maternity leave. She’d often kick him out of class or send him to detention, with extra homework and everything. But then, you can never tell with substitute teachers. They could be just as bad. Or worse!
Only Decent People, released October 11, is directed and written by Lodewijk Crijns and produced by Topkapi Films. The film tells the story of well-bred David, who is engaged to an equally well-bred girl within the Jewish social circle of his educated middle class parents in the posh district of Amsterdam, discovers he has a craving for black beauties with big boobs and buttocks from the suburbs. He dumps his girlfriend, drops out of college and sets out on a quest for his dream.
An apolitical and nonreligious film about the clash between social and cultural classes, based on the novel by Robert Vuijsje.
The Golden/Platinum/Diamond Film Award is awarded when the number of tickets sold after a film’s release reach 100.000, 400.000, and 1.000.000 respectively. The prize is an initiative presented by the Netherlands Film Festival and the Netherlands Film Fund since 2001 and is intended to encourage the Dutch film industry and motivate the general public to go and see Dutch films.
