TAKING CHANCES Best Dutch Film Cinekid
October 20, 2011
At the 25th edition of Cinekid, the International Film, Television and New Media Festival for the Youth in Amsterdam (October 12 – 21) TAKING CHANCES (Dutch title: PATATJE OORLOG) received the Best Dutch Film award. The jury called the film by director Nicole van Kilsdonk a ‘poetic pearl’.
TAKING CHANCES is about nine-year-old Kiek, who is worried as her father needs to work in a war zone. To reduce the chance her father will get hurt, she comes up with a strange idea: she needs a dead dog and a dead mouse. Kiek doesn't know one person who has a dead mouse, a dead dog, ánd a dead father. That's a small chance.
TAKING CHANCES was this year’s opening film at Cinekid and is produced by Lemming Film in co-production with Dutch broadcaster NCRV and A Private View (BE). The film is screening in Dutch cinemas at the moment.
PENNY’S SHADOW by Steven de Jong was the festival visitors’ favorite and received the Best Dutch Film Audience Award at Cinekid. The film tells the story of Lisa (17) who tries to train the traumatized horse Shadow and give him back trust in people.
The film is produced by Two Young Rights. Earlier this year PENNY’S SHADOW was a box office hit in the Netherlands and attracted over 100,000 visitors.
