Dutch projects at Berlinale Co-Production Market

February 24, 2013

The Netherlands is well represented at the upcoming Berlinale Co-Production Market. The official selection of the market includes 20 new international feature film projects (chosen from 318 entries) of which two are Dutch.

For the first time, the market will feature five projects developed at the Berlinale Residency and Dutch director Sacha Polak is one of the presenting filmmakers. Last year she had two films at the Berlinale: the short film Brother (screened in the Generation 14plus competition) and her feature debut Hemel, for which she received the Award for Best Film in the Forum section from the FIPRESCI Jury. At the Co-Production Market Polak will present her new project Zurich, produced by Viking Film.

Another Dutch project that has been selected for the Berlinale Co-Production Market is In the Heart, by director Nicole van Kilsdonk and produced by Waterland Film. Van Kilsdonk previously directed among others Taking Chances, which was selected for the Generation Kplus section of the Berlinale last year, Heading West, and How to Survive Myself.

This year the market will also include a newly restructured Company Matching programme. Seven renowned production companies from around the world have been selected to present themselves and will be enabled to exchange on company and structural level. One of the companies is Lemming Film from the Netherlands. Lemming Film is one of the leading Dutch film and television production companies. It specializes in fiction for children, teen- and family audiences and international arthouse films. The productions are regularly financed from several international sources and are widely shown at prestigious international festivals. Most of them are award-winning films, and have been sold internationally to more than 25 territories.
