Dutch documentary SEE NO EVIL by Jos de Putter wins at DOK.fest Munchen
Dutch documentary See No Evil, directed by Jos de Putter, has won the Viktor DOK.international award for best international documentary at DOK.fest - International Documentary Film Festival in München (Germany). The 29th edition of the festival took place 7-14 May, 2014.
Jury Statement: "A haunting film with an intelligent, experimental structure in both sound and imagery. A brilliant piece of filmmaking that puts people in the background but speaks volumes about humankind. For the innovative use of non-fiction cinema, the jury awards the Viktor DOK.international to See No Evil by Jos de Putter."
The members of the DOK.international Jury were Melissa Lindgren (Head Programmer, Tempo Documentary Festival Stockholm), Veton Nurkollari (Artistic Director DokuFest, International Documentary and Short Film Festival Prizren) and Ulla Simonen (Artistic Director, DocPoint - Helsinki Documentary Film Festival).
De film is produced by Dieptescherpte and Films Transit International is handling world sales. See No Evil portrays the daily lives of three famous senior chimpanzees, inhabitants of retirement homes. They are Cheeta, the most famous ape on the planet and last survivor of the Tarzan pictures, Kanzi, the smartest ape on the planet, and "The Crippled", hero of the space age.
See No Evil had its world première at the International Film Festival Rotterdam and also screened at the Hot Docs International Documentary Festival (Canada), International Documentary Film Festival - Visions du Réel (Switzerland) and Docville Leuven (Belgium). See No Evil is also selected for DokuFest, International Documentary and Short Film Festival Prizren (Kosovo) and DocPoint - Helsinki Documentary Film Festival (Finland). Finally, retrospectives of Jos de Putter are being planned for the Festival Dei Popoli in Florence (Italy), Tokyo International Film Festival (Japan) and It's All True - International Documentary Film Festival in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro (Brazil).
Jos de Putter gained international recognition for films like It's been a lovely day (his debute in 1993), Dans Grozny, Dans (2002) and Beyond the Game (2008). Currently, he is working on a follow up of his film Solo, the law of the favela (1994).
