Royal Selection Dutch films Annecy 2016

13 June 2016

The biggest animation film event in the world, the Festival International du Film d'Animation Annecy takes place from 13-18 June in Haut-Savoie in France with a royal selection of Dutch films in and out of competition.

Dutch music video De Staat: Witch Doctor by Studio Smack and Floris Kaayk with a mesmerising performance and spectacular mass choreography has been selected for the competition for commissioned films.

Out of competition three titles will be presented: Branded Dreams by Studio Smack (produced by: Studio Smack) the moving visual tour the force Löss by Yi Zhao (produced by: Armadillo Film) and Parade by Digna van der Put (produced by: Nederlands Instituut voor Animatiefilm).

In the competition for graduation films the HKU University of the Arts Utrecht is well represented with no less than three productions: Depart at 22 by Wiep Teunissen, Just a Biopic by Renske Cuijpers and Saturday Symphony by Iris Frankhuizen.

Puberdagboek: Alma Mathijsen (Teenage Diary: Alma Mathijsen) by Samantha Williams (produced by: Submarine) takes part in the competition for TV movies, the charming part of the series about teenage diaries. Before Alma Mathijsen started writing ‘real’ books, she wrote revealing epistles about all the boys in her life in her love diary.

Dutch filmmaker Michael Dudok de Wit will take centre stage in Annecy. His feature film The Red Turtle is set to open the festival (produced by: Studio Ghibli). In addition the festival will screen a documentary on the creation of the film: The Longing of Michael Dudok de Wit.
