Record-breaking nr of Dutch films at TIFF

No less than seven films from the Netherlands have been selected for the upcoming edition of the Toronto International Film Festival (September 4 - 14).

Both Atlantic.*, the second feature by director Jan-Willem van Ewijk (produced by Augustus Film) The Intruder*, Shariff Korver’s solo debut feature (produced by lemming Film), will have their world premiere in the Discovery programme, in which they compete for the International Critics' Prize (FIPRESCI Prize).

Filmmaker Mijke de Jong returns to Toronto with Frailer* (produced by Topkapi Films and PRPL)that world premieres in the Contemporary World Cinema section. De Jong’s previous films Bluebird (2004) and Katia’s Sister (2008) also screened at the festival.

Secrets of War*, a family film by Dennis Bots (produced by Rinkel Film and Bijker Film & TV), will be screened as part of TIFF Kids and the experimental documentary Episode of the Sea* by Lonnie van Brummelen en Siebren de Haan is part of Wavelengths.

Two Dutch short films are included in the new competitive section Short Cuts International: The Last Day of Summer*by Feike Santbergen (produced by Filos Film) and the animated short A Single Life* directed (and produced) Job, Joris & Marieke.

On top of that seven minority Dutch co-productions have been selected at TIFF as well: Contemporary World Cinema features Men Who Save the World* by Liew Seng Tat (NL co-producer: Volya Films) and Two Shots Fired* by Martín Rejtman (NL co-producers: Waterland Film, Fortuna Films); They Have Escaped* by Jukka Pekka Valkepää (NL co-producer: Revolver Media) is shown in Vanguard, Lisandro Alonso’s Jauja (NL co-producer: Fortuna Films) and Sergei Loznitsa’s Maidan* (NL co-producer: Atoms & Void) in Wavelenghts, Cub* by Jonas Govaerts (NL co-producer: Submarine) in Midnight Madness, and The Yes Men Are Revolting by Laura Nix and The Yes Men (NL co-producer: Pieter van Huystee Film & TV) in TIFF Docs.
