Our Sun international cast
October 27 2014
Writer/Director Joost van Ginkel recently started shooting his second feature film Our Sun. Principal photography is taking place in and around Amsterdam and in Sofia, Bulgaria. The European main cast includes Issaka Sawadogo (The Invader, Venice Film Festival 2011), Anjela Nedyalkova (Avé, Semaine de la Critique, Cannes 2011), Boris Isakovic, Jasna Djuricic (winner Golden Leopard Best Actress 2010) and Magnus Krepper (The Bridge).
Our Sun is a mosaic drama consisting of five storylines that get interweaved. In the film we follow six characters that voluntarily or involuntarily have moved to Amsterdam and who seem to have nothing more in common than their far away country of birth. Still, they influence each other's lives irreversibly: in the darkest of times, love and friendship appear to be the most powerful engines to turn faith. Our Sun. is taking us to worlds that exist in the shadows of our own lives. The film is both a raw and poetic praise to human strength for survival.
Previously Joost van Ginkel directed the short films Sand (selection Venice Film Festival 2008) and Kiss (selection Tribeca Film Festival 2010). His feature film debut 170Hz won the audience award at the Dutch Film Festival and the Dutch press called the film ‘intense and sensory', ‘a visual adventure' and ‘unique in the Dutch film culture'. 170Hz had its international premiere at Busan International Film Festival 2011.
Our Sun is a production of PRPL (Ellen Havenith, Frailer) and Bastide Films (Jeroen Beker, Only Decent People) in coproduction with GötaFilm, Film i Väst (Sweden) and KaBoAl Pictures (Bulgaria), and is supported by The Netherlands Film Fund and Film Production Incentive, the Swedish Film Institute, the Bulgarian National Film Center and Eurimages.
Distributor September Film will release Our Sun in 2015 in Benelux.
