Dutch feature film NOVA ZEMBLA, directed by Reinout Oerlemans, has reached the status of Golden Film for more than 100.000 tickets sold, within just four days after its theatrical release in the Netherlands on November 24, 2011.

NOVA ZEMBLA is the first 3D film from the Netherlands. The film is based on one of the most famous episodes in Dutch history; the legendary sea journey led by explorer Willem Barentsz. He and his crew were forced to spend the arctic winter of 1596 on the Russian Nova Zembla islands.

NOVA ZEMBLA is produced by Eyeworks Film & TV Drama in collaboration with Eyeworks Holding and Inspire Pictures. The film is distributed in the Netherlands by Benelux Film Distributors.

The Golden/Platinum/Diamond Film Award is an initiative presented by the Netherlands Film Festival and the Netherlands Film Fund since 2001. The prize is intended to encourage the Dutch film industry and motivate the general public to go and see Dutch films. The total number of tickets sold (100.000, 400.000 and 1.000.000) after a film’s release determines whether a prize is awarded.
