MONSTER OF NIX awarded @ Clermont Ferrand

6 February 2012

Dutch animated short film THE MONSTER OF NIX, directed by Rosto, has won the SACEM Award for Best Original Film Score at the International Short Film Festival Clermont-Ferrand. The festival took place 27 January - 4 February, 2012.

The film is produced by Studio Rosto A.D in co-production with Autour de Minuit (France) and CinéTé (Belgium) in association with French broadcaster Canal+ and Dutch broadcaster AVRO.

THE MONSTER OF NIX is a 30-minute animated musical about young Willy who fights the destructive force of an all-devouring monster in the village of Nix. Rosto made the film for his son Max, who was six years old when the production of the film started. The production of the film took many years and was only finished when Max was twelve. The result is a film suitable for kids from 10 to 100.

Musician/actor Tom Waits and director Terry Gilliam provided voices for THE MONSTER OF NIX. Tom Waits voices one of the main characters, Virgil, a terrifying giant pitch-black swallow. Terry Gilliam plays the ranger, who locks himself up in terror in his forest cabin. The Metropole Orkest, French indie band The Dø and the American eyeball rockers The Residents contributed to the soundtrack.

Rosto is a Dutch director and artist, known for his music videos, online graphic novel and independent short films. Rosto’s previous films are THEE WRECKERS: NO PLACE LIKE HOME (2009), BIG WHITE/ BIG BLACK (2006), JONA/TOMBERRY (2005), ANGLOBILLY FEVERSON (2001), BEHEADED (1999).
