January 14, 2010
The Netherlands is represented this year by as many as seven films at the 60th edition of the Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale). The festival will take place from February 11 – 21, 2010.
Dutch feature films EEP! (IEP!) and JOY (Mijke de Jong, IDTV Film), the short documentary DRONA & ME (Catherine van Campen, Zuidenwind Film Productions) and the fiction short JACCO’S FILM (Daan Bakker, Netherlands Film and Television Academy) are all selected for Berlin’s Generation programme, the competition programme for youth films, and will compete for a Crystal Bear, the prize for the best international youth film.
The documentary THE RAINBOW WARRIORS OF WAIHEKE ISLAND by Suzanne Raes (IDTV Docs) is part of Berlin's 4th Culinary Cinema program with the theme "In The Food For Love", presenting films revolving around the relationship between food and love, nature, and the environment.
O QUAM TRISTIS by Spanish-Dutch filmmaker Maite Abella is selected for the FORUM program in Berlin. This program is considered the most experimental part of the festival with very original, often provocative and disturbing films.
Finally, the Dutch-Romanian co-production COLIVIA / THE CAGE by Adrian Sitaru (Kaliber Film / Film 4Proof) is selected for the short film competition in Berlin to win a Golden Bear. COLIVIA / THE CAGE is part of the film DOMESTIC, which is still under development.
