Loving Ibiza reaches Platinum status
February 19, 2013
Feature film Loving Ibiza has reached the status of Platinum Film within just 2,5 weeks. More than 400.000 tickets have been sold already since the film’s release in Dutch cinemas on January 31.
The film is doing well not just in the Netherlands but also abroad. During the European Film Market in Berlin the distribution rights were sold to Germany, France, Russia and Ukraine, and more deals will follow shortly as sales outfit Mountain Road Entertainment Group is negotiating with companies in various countries at the moment.
The film is directed by Johan Nijenhuis, produced by 2Houses, Johan Nijenhuis & Co and Farmhouse Film & TV and the script is by Tijs van Marle, Annelou Verboon and Maarten Lebens.
Eleven people. Four stories. One island. Everyone comes to Ibiza with their own expectations, but in the end they all face the same challenges. In lighthearted and comic fashion, four couples get a taste of that universal desire to be something that they can no longer be, and are forced to figure out what comes in its place.
The Golden/Platinum/Diamond Film Award is awarded when the number of tickets sold after a film’s release is 100.000, 400.000, and 1.000.000 respectively. The prize is an initiative presented by the Netherlands Film Festival and the Netherlands Film Fund since 2001 and is intended to encourage the Dutch film industry and motivate the general public to go and see Dutch films.
