Layla M selected for TIFF Platform

Dutch feature Layla M., by director Mijke de Jong, will have its world premiere at upcoming edition of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). The film is selected for the prestigious Platform competition.

Layla M. is written by Jan Eilander in collaboration with Mijke de Jong and produced by Topkapi Films (NL) in co-production with Menuet (BE), Chromosom Film (DE) and Schiwago Film (DE).Sales are handled by Beta Films.

Layla (18), a Dutch girl with Moroccan roots, joins a group of radical Muslims. She encounters a world that nurtures her ideas initially, but finally confronts her with an impossible choice.

It's not the first time Mijke de Jong is going to Toronto. Her previous films Frailer (2014) and Bluebird (2004) were also presented at the Canadian festival.

Earlier TIFF has already announced the selection of other Dutch films:
Brimstone by Martin Koolhoven is part of the Special Presentations programme, documentary Bezness as Usual written and directed by Alex Pitstra will be presented in the TIFF Docs section and Ena Sendijarevic's short film Import (produced by Pupkin Film), is selected for Short Cuts.
