The European Discovery Award – Prix Fipresci, is an award as part of the European Film Awards to a director who debuts his first full-length film.
Kauwboy previously won the European Film Academy Young Audience Award and now has two European Film Awards. In addition to the many other international awards the film is also the Dutch Oscar submission for 2013.
Producer Jan van der Zanden of Waterland Film: "This prize will certainly help us in the Oscar campaign, where our agent in LA is already working on it. Who knows, maybe this is not the end of the myriad of overwhelming international prizes."
The film is a co-production with the NTR and was established in the framework of Cinema Junior; a collaboration between the Netherlands Film Fund, the Media Fund, CoBO Fund and public service broadcasting, to support and stimulate artistic youth films. The Canadian sales agent Attraction Distribution presented the film for the international sales at the International Film Festival Berlin and EYE International provides the international promotion. The film was released in Dutch cinemas by Benelux Film Distributors.
