Karlovy Vary 2019: Dutch films
28 June 2019
Several films and co-productions from the Netherlands have been selected for Karlovy Vary Internation Film Festival. The 54th edition of the festival starts today and takes place until July 6th, 2019.
In the Arms of Morpheus, directed by Marc Schmidt, will have its world premiere in the Documentary Films Competition. The film is produced by Janneke Doolaard from Doxy (NL). The film offers an exploration of the fantastic and uncontrollable elements of our existence. What happens behind closed eyes when we lose consciousness and give ourselves over to dreams? And how is our perception of reality changed when the line between waking and sleeping is blurred?
Dutch minority co-production A Certain Kind of Silence, directed by Michal Hogenauer, will have its world premiere in the East of the West Competition. The film is produced by Negativ Film Productions (CZ), in co-production with Tasse Film (LV) and Circe Films (NL) - Stienette Bosklopper. While working abroad, young au pair Mia unwittingly surrenders her reason, her heart and her dreams to a radical family community.
Process (The Trial), directed by Sergei Loznitsa and produced by Atoms & Void is selected for Another View. Also screening in this section are Dutch minority co-productions The Miracle of the Sargasso Sea (Dutch producer PRPL), Monos (NL prod: Lemming Film) and Sick, Sick, Sick (NL prod: BALDR Film).
Furthermore, short experimental film Pareidolia, directed by Nan Wan, will screen in the Imagina section of the festival.
