Inner Landscape, The
In fast-changing China where traditions are vanishing, composer Guo Wenjing seeks a way between Eastern and Western music, and between old and new China.
Composer Guo Wenjing is strongly connected with the traditions of his country. The contradictions that govern today's China; tradition vs. modernity, city vs. rural, East vs. West, can be found in Guo’s life and work. The film shows how Guo composes opera ‘Si Fan’ for the Dutch Nieuw Ensemble into which he integrates Sichuan opera, a disappearing opera form. Guo stresses that the colours he arouses in his score express the soul of the people: “My music is about the inner landscape”.
