Holland well represented at Locarno

July 16, 2014

No less than two short documentaries from the Netherlands are selected for the upcoming edition of the Locarno International Film Festival, which takes place August 6 – 16. Both Kookaburra Love by Sjoerd Oostrik and Shipwreck by director Morgan Knibbe are included in Pardi di Domani, the competitive section for short and medium-length films by new talent.

Two minority Dutch co-productions will be screened as part of the main competition, Concorso Internazionale, and will be vying for Locarno’s Golden Leopard: A Blast directed by the Greek Syllas Tzoumerkas and co-produced by The Netherlands based PRPL and Bastide Films, and Dos Disparos by Argentine Martín Rejtman and co-produced by Waterland Film and Fortuna Films.

The minority co-production Men who Save the World (Lelaki Harapan Dunia) by Malaysian filmmaker Liew Seng Tat and Dutch co-production company Volya Films will be screened in the Concorso Cineasti del Presente, the competition for first and second films by emerging directors.

The jury for the Pardi di Domani, will be presided over by the internationally acclaimed Dutch actor Rutger Hauer, unforgettable for his performances such as the replicant Roy in Blade Runner (Ridley Scott, 1982) and the homeless man in La leggenda del santo bevitore (Ermanno Olmi, 1988).
