Hill of Pleasures wins at Brasília and Warsaw
HILL OF PLEASURES directed by Maria Ramos and produced by Keydocs has been awarded 3 times at the 46th Festival de Brasília for Best Director, Best Photography and Best Sound. Also, at the Watch Docs Festival in Warsaw, Maria Ramos received the award for excellent achievement in showing human rights in film.
HILL OF PLEASURES had its world premiere at the International Film Festival Rotterdam. After JUSTICE and BEHAVE it is the last part of a trilogy on Brazilian society. The documentary shows the attempts to restore law and order by military operation in the favela Hill of Pleasures in Rio de Janeiro. The Police Pacification Unit became the tool of Brazil’s new policy of conquering citizenship. How do inhabitants and occupants of the Hill assess their new situation?
Maria Ramos: “For me it is a portrait of a country at a deciding moment in history. Economic growth is overshadowed by the sobering fact that the country is not capable of creating a more equal society. For years and years the poverty made me sad and ashamed. Will Brazil ever become that land of the future?”
