Family Way reaches Golden Status

Amsterdam, November 26

The Romantic Comedy The Family Way has reached the status of Golden Film for more than 100.000 tickets sold two days after its theatrical release in the Netherlands on November 22. It is the largest nationwide release in the Netherlands to date, screening in 141 theatres.

The Film is directed by Joram Lürsen, written by Kim van Kooten and produced by Topkapi Films in co-production with VARA.
Lürsen, van Kooten and producer Frans van Gestel of Topkapi Films previously collaborated on the Dutch Hit Love is All.

In The Family Way all the members of the De Roover family have ended up at a point of no return in their lives, where crucial choices have to be made. Winnie (Carice van Houten) wants a child. Her husband Rutmer (Thijs Römer) wants to get in touch with his inner feelings. His brother Charlie (Benja Bruijning) doesn’t want any more responsibilities. Brother-in-law Dick (Jacob Derwig) wants his dead wife back. And head of the family Arend (Kees Hulst) just wants to be happy. Meanwhile mother Jeannette (Martine Bijl) wants somebody to want her.

The Golden/Platinum/Diamond Film Award is an initiative presented by the Netherlands Film Festival and the Netherlands Film Fund since 2001. The prize is intended to encourage the Dutch film industry and motivate the general public to go and see Dutch films. The total number of tickets sold after a film’s release determines whether a prize is awarded.
