Dutch shorts at Leuven Short FF
Five Dutch shorts have been selected for the Short Film Festival Leuven. The 26th edition of the festival takes place this year from 5 - 12 December 2020 as an online event and will feature both screenings that are streamed live as well as programs that are available to watch on demand during the festival period.
Presented in the European Competition for fiction is Marlon
Brando*) by Vincent Tilanus produced by Loes Koomen and Eva Verweij of
Room for Film. This queer short about love, friendship and growing up already
had a flying start with its selection for the 2020 Cannes Semaine de la Critique
and the Short Cuts competition at TIFF.
Also in the European Competition and by the same producers duo is En Route*) by
Marit Weerheijm. The director, who won a student Oscar with her graduation film
When Grey Is a Colour, is also triumphing at the festival circuit with her
first short En Route with selections for among others New York International
Children's Film Festival, Berlinale Generations and Cinekid.
Furthermore, the comic ultrashort film Heat
by Tessa Meijer is included in the competition as well. The film that makes us
long for enjoying an ice cream on a carefree summer day is produced by Julia
Rombout for July Film and was recently selected for both Sitges Film Festival
and SXSW.
Outside of competiton at Leuven SFF two Dutch animated shorts are screened in
the special program Animation Nations:
How Countries Fight Their Wars by Maurice Baltissen, produced by The
Hague based animation company Studio Mitsi and Sad
Beauty *), independently produced and directed by Arjan Brentjes.
