Dutch films selected for LEtrange

No less than four Dutch short films have been selected in competition at L'Étrange Festival: Cuckoo! by Jörgen Scholtens, Heat by Thessa Meijer, The Killing of a Child by Kim Kokosky Deforchaux and Jamille van Wijngaarden's School's out!. The 26th edition of the Festival takes place in Paris at Forum des Images from 2 to 13 September.

Cuckoo! is Jörgen Scholtens' debut film. The film was selected for several international short film festivals such as Go Short International Film Festivl Nijmegen. Inside a cuckoo clock lives a lonely man who is catapulted out of his tiny house every hour to yell ‘Cuckoo!'

Jamille van Wijngaarden's School's out!produced by The Rogues, has been selected for numerous international festivals, such as the international competition of the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival. The film receive a Special Mention at Interfilm Berlin (Germany). In the film, a mother blames a kindergarten teacher for failing to give her son an outlet for his male energy. The teacher tries to remain professional, but after yet another reproach she finally discovers an outlet for her own pent-up frustration... 

Heat 
is directed by Thessa Meijer and produced by Halal and was previously selected for SXSW 2020, among others. The film is a surreal yet impactful comment on global warming. During an extreme heat wave, a shy girl seeks refuge in an ice cream shop. But when she looks into the eyes of the charming vendor, she is on thin ice..

The Killing of a Child had its international premiere at the Busan International Short Film Festival 2020. In the film, directed and produced by Kim & Titus Kokosky Deforchaux, a lonely young boy makes his very first friend, but because of his miserable existence this friendship is ill-fated.

Furthermore, Grimm Re-Edit, directed by Alex van Warmerdam, will celebrate its French premiere in the Mondovision section of the L'Étrange Festival. Grimm premiered at the San Sebastian International Film Festival in 2003, and subsequently screened at numerous other prestigious festivals including Toronto, Busan, Chicago and BAFICI (Buenos Aires).The film has also been selected for the Three Fantastic Weekends programme organized by the Strasbourg European Fantastic Film Festival that will take place in September.
