Dutch Docs and Animation at Dok Leipzig

Dutch docs and animation are well represented at DOK Leipzig this year. No less than nine Dutch films and projects have been selected for the International Documentary and Animation Film Festival in Leipzig, Germany.

Three Dutch documentaries have been selected for the International Competition; The Principal Wife by Hester Overmars (produced by seriousFILM), The Trial by Sergei Loznitsa (Produced by Atoms & Void) and Keeping & Saving or how to live by Digna Sinke (produced by De Familie Film & TV). The Principal Wife tells the story of Marijke, the daughter of a woman that left her family behind to become part of a sect. The Trial had its world premiere at Venice International Film Festival and presents one of Stalin's first show trials using unique archive footage. In her film Keeping & Saving or how to live, Digna Sinke is exploring the urge of people to collect material things, at a time when digital is superseding everything. The film premiered at the Rotterdam International Film Festival earlier this year.

Robby Müller - Living the Light by Claire Pijman (produced by Moondocs) profiles the late Dutch visionary Robby Müller, DoP to a.o. Jim Jarmusch, Wim Wenders & Lars von Trier. The film premiered at the Venice International Film Festival and is selected for the International Program at Dok Leipzig.

Also selected for the International Program is Paper Land by Marie van Vollenhoven (produced by Videopower), this cross-genre documentary is questioning our views on refugee problems in the world.

Three short films have been selected this year. Martha Colburn's Western Wild...or how I found wanderlust and met Old Shatterhand is a short stop motion animation about the German writer Karl May and is selected for the Dok Leipzig International Programme. The Strictly Animated Section features two Dutch shorts. Get Real! By Evert de Beijer (produced by CinéTé) and Metalosis Maligna by Floris Kaayk.

The VR Installation In my Absence by Niki Smith will be presented in DOK Neuland. This section focuses on new trends in interactive audio-visual artwork. In my Absence lets you enter the inner experience of children with absence epilepsy.

DOK Leipzig Film Festival takes place 29 October until 4 November 2018.
