Dream release A Woman Goes to the Doctor
Dream release and Golden Film in record time for Dutch feature A Woman Goes to the Doctor.
A Woman Goes to the Doctor, directed by Reinout Oerlemans and produced by Eyeworks Film & TV Drama, had the best opening weekend a Dutch feature film ever saw.
Just within two days after its theatrical release on November 26, 2009, A Woman Goes to the Doctor, received a Golden Film for over 100.000 tickets sold and within four days after it’s premiere the film could even welcome more than 200.000 visitors.
The Golden Film is an initiative presented by the Netherlands Film Festival and the Netherlands Film Fund since 2001. The prizes are intended to encourage the Dutch film industry and motivate the general public to go and see Dutch films. The total number of tickets sold after a film's release determines whether a prize is awarded. The Golden Films are awarded to Dutch full length feature-films and is handed out when a film has drawn in more than 100.000 visitors.
A Woman Goes to the Doctor, starring star actresses Carice van Houten and Anna Drijver and actor Barry Atsma, is based on the bestseller ‘Komt een vrouw bij de dokter’ by Dutch author Kluun, in which a man in the prime of life faces his wife’s terminal illness. A raw, moving and shameless ode to love.
A Woman Goes to the Doctor is produced by Eyeworks Film & TV Drama in collaboration with Inspire Pictures. Benelux Film Distributors provides the theatrical distribution of the film. A Woman Goes to the Doctor is currently running in 116 theatres in the Netherlands.
