Dream & Deed
The writings of Henriette Roland Holst (1869–1952) give an insight into her deepest dilemmas; old images lead us through turbulent years.
During the years 1891-1927, the life and work of Henriette Roland Holst undergo a profound and dramatic development. As an aspiring poet from an affluent bourgeois background she throws herself into the labour movement. The film reconstructs this period with the use of old film material combined with texts by Henriette Roland Holst herself: fragments from letters, poems, speeches and books, sparingly annotated with personal commentary by the filmmaker.
