Dok Leipzig: Lamentations of Judas
20 October 2020
Feature length documentary Lamentations of Judas, directed by Boris Gerrets, is selected for Dok Leipzig. The film is produced by Witfilm.
Black Angolan soldiers once fought white South Africa's colonial war. Now they are the protagonists in a film about betrayal, free will and repentance.
The film opened Movies that Matter Film Festival in The Hague (Netherlands) earlier this year. Lamentations of Judas also screened at Encounters South African International Documentary Festival.
Internationally acclaimed film director and writer Boris Gerrets unfortunately passed away shortly after completing the Lamentations of Judas. Gerrets directed several award winning documentaries, such as
Shado'man (2014, feature documentary) and People I Could Have Been and Maybe Am (2010, mid-Length documentary), for which he won both the IDFA Award for Best Mid-Length Documentary and Best Direction for Mid-Length Documentary at Nyon Visions du Réel.
The 63rd International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film takes place online between 26 October to 1 November 2020.
