COOL KIDS gets Norwegian remake
May 29, 2012
The film rights to Dutch family film COOL KIDS DON’T CRY have been sold to Norway. Production company Cinenord will develop a Norwegian remake.
COOL KIDS DON’T CRY is based on the best selling novel Eighth Graders Don’t Cry by Jacques Vriens and tells the story of a football crazy 12-year-old girl, Akkie, who is unexpectedly diagnosed with leukemia.
COOL KIDS DON’T CRY is directed by Dennis Bots, written by Karen van Holst Pellekaan and produced by Rinkel Film and Bijker in co-production with Living Stone (Belgium).
The family film has been doing well on both the national and international market. With almost 300.000 tickets sold since its release in Dutch cinemas on February 15, COOL KIDS DON’T CRY is the most visited film from the Netherlands this year. Besides Norway, producers from the US, Germany and Mexico have also shown interest in a remake of the film. In Cannes COOL KIDS has been sold to various countries, among others Turkey, Poland and Israel. At the international film festival TIFF Kids in Toronto the film was awarded the Audience Choice Award and received an honourable mention from the TIFF Kids Young People’s Jury.
