COOL KIDS DON'T CRY Golden Film

February 27, 2012

COOL KIDS DON'T CRY, directed by Dick Dennis Bots and written by Karen van Holst Pellekaan, has reached the status of Golden Film for more than 100.000 tickets sold since its theatrical release in the Netherlands on February 15, 2012.

COOL KIDS DON'T CRY tells the story of Akkie, a spirited young girl, who loves soccer, even though her classmate Joep thinks that soccer is not meant for girls. When she is diagnosed with leukemia, she remains optimistic. She even continues interfering with the school soccer tournament while she is lying in the hospital. But when Akkie’s health deteriorates so much she is no longer able to participate in the tournament, Joep comes up with a really special plan.

The Golden/Platinum/Diamond Film Award is an initiative presented by the Netherlands Film Festival  and the Netherlands Film Fund since 2001. The prize is intended to encourage the Dutch film industry and motivate the general public to go and see Dutch films. The total number of tickets sold after a film’s release determines whether a prize is awarded.

COOL KIDS DON'T CRY is produced by Rinkel Film and Bijker, in co-production with Living Stone (BE). The film is distributed in the Netherlands by Dutch Filmworks and is screening at 103 cinemas at the moment.
