CLUB ZEUS WINS RETURN OF THE TIGER AWARD
Last Friday the Dutch feature film CLUB ZEUS by David Verbeek was awarded the Return of the Tiger Award at the 40th International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR).
This year’s Return of the Tiger festival program and the accompanying one-off Return of the Tiger Award are intended as a gesture of appreciation towards those filmmakers who have taken the first steps of their careers on the international stage at the IFFR, and as a token of the festival’s ongoing support for these filmmakers. The fifteen directors of the fourteen films competing in the Tiger Awards Competition 2011 were asked to decide together on the winner of this unique award, worth €5,000. The joint decision resulted in a shared Return of the Tiger Award for: OKI’S MOVIE by Hong Sang-Soo (South Korea) and CLUB ZEUS by David Verbeek.
CLUB ZEUS is produced by Revolver Media in co-production with Les Petites Lumières (France). The film, shot in just 10 days, centers on a group of host boys who exist in a world of lies, manipulations and false love in a club for wealthy women in Shanghai.
David Verbeek’s second feature film SHANGHAI TRANCE was nominated for a Tiger Award in 2008. His following feature R U THERE premiered in the prestigious Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival 2010.
CLUB ZEUS will be released in April 2011 in Dutch art house cinemas by Cinema Delicatessen.
