BLACK BUTTERFLIES has triumphed at the SAFTAS, winning 6 awards, including Best Feature Film, which came with a prize of R50,000, and Best Cinematographer.

The winners of the 6th South African Film and Television Awards were announced last weekend. The Dutch/German/South African co-production about the poet Ingrid Jonker also won the awards for Best Production Designer, Best Music Composition, Best Costume Designer and Best Make up/Hair Stylist.

BLACK BUTTERFLIES star actress Carice van Houten was not eligible for the Best Actress Award because she is Dutch, not South African.

BLACK BUTTERFLIES is directed by Paula van der Oest and written by Greg Latter. The film is produced by IDTV Film in co-production with Riba Film International (NL), Comet Film (DE) and Spier Productions (ZA).

The film was released in Dutch cinemas last year in March and has already been sold to more than 50 countries.
