BLACK BUTTERFLIES nominee 9 SAFTAS
February 21, 2012
Dutch feature film BLACK BUTTERFLIES has been nominated for nine SAFTA-Awards, the most important South-African film and television prizes. The movie is in the running for among others the awards for best film, best script and best cinematographer. In the Netherlands BLACK BUTTERFLIES has already won the Golden Calf for best film and best actress.
BLACK BUTTERFLIES is directed by Paula van der Oest and written by Greg Latter. The film is produced by IDTV Film in co-production with Riba Film International (NL), NTR (NL), Comet Film (DE) and Spier Productions (ZA).
BLACK BUTTERFLIES tells the true story of the South African poet Ingrid Jonker, a white artist and critic of the Apartheid regime. From an early age, Ingrid found freedom and solace only in writing. Rejected by her father and despite the love of many men, no-one could give Ingrid what she was seeking. It was not until Nelson Mandela read one of her poems in his first speech to the South African Parliament that she finally found recognition.
The SAFTA ceremony will be held March 9 and 10, 2012.
