A SINGLE LIFE nominated for the Oscars

15 January 2015

Dutch short animation A SINGLE LIFE by Job, Joris & Marieke is nominated for the Oscars®

Dutch animated short film A Single Life, directed, animated and produced by Job, Joris & Marieke is nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film 2015. Today the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences announced the 5 nominated animated short films that will advance in the voting process for the 87th Academy Awards®. The nominated films were selected from 10 shortlisted films. Originally fifty-eight shorts qualified in the category.

A Single Life had its world premiere last September at the Toronto International Film Festival. The film is also selected for Flickerfest International Short Film Festival (Australia), Anima Brussels (Belgium), New York International Children's Film Festival, amongst others. Furthermore, the film will be screening in International Competition at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival that will take place in France in February 2015.

Job Roggeveen (1979), Joris Oprins (1980) and Marieke Blaauw (1979) founded their studio in 2007 and made a large number of animated films and music videos. Their work has been selected by many international film festivals, like Mute (short, 2013), Born with a Bothered Mind (music video for Happy Camper, the music project of Job Roggeveen, 2011) and the Tumblies (animation series, 2013). A Single Life is the first Academy Award nomination for Joris Oprins.

In A Single Life, Pia is suddenly able to travel through her life, when playing a mysterious vinyl single.

Last Dutch animated short to win an Oscar® was Father & Daughter by Michael Dudok de Wit and produced by CinéTé (Willem Thijssen), in 2001. The last Dutch animated short film to be shortlisted for the Academy Awards was Variété (Variety) by Roelof van den Bergh, produced by il Luster Productions, in 2010.

The Oscars® ceremony will be held on Sunday, February 22, 2015.
