THE MONSTER OF NIX shortlisted for Cezar 2013

Dutch animated short film THE MONSTER OF NIX by Rosto is on the shortlist of 10 films for the Cézar, the most prestigious film awards in France. Since its premier at the Annecy Animation Film Festival in 2011 the film screened at many international festivals, won numerous awards and was theatrically released in The Netherlands and Belgium.
The film is produced by Studio Rosto A.D in co-production with Autour de Minuit (France) and CinéTé (Belgium) in association with French broadcaster Canal+ and Dutch broadcaster AVRO.
Musician/actor Tom Waits and director Terry Gilliam provided voices for THE MONSTER OF NIX. Tom Waits voices one of the main characters, Virgil, a terrifying giant pitch-black swallow. Terry Gilliam plays the ranger, who locks himself up in terror in his forest cabin. The Metropole Orkest, French indie band The Dø and the American eyeball rockers The Residents contributed to the soundtrack.
Rosto is a Dutch director and artist, known for his music videos, online graphic novel and independent short films. Rosto’s previous films are NO PLACE LIKE HOME (2009), BIG WHITE/ BIG BLACK (2006), JONA/TOMBERRY (2005), ANGLOBILLY FEVERSON (2001), BEHEADED (1999). His films have won several international awards, like the Grand Prix Semaine de la Critique for best short film in Cannes 2005 for his film JONA/TOMBERRY.
THE MONSTER OF NIX is a 30-minute animated musical about young Willy who
fights the destructive force of an all-devouring monster in the village
of Nix. Rosto made the film for his son Max, who was six years old when
the production of the film started. The production of the film took
many years and was only finished when Max was twelve. The result is a
film suitable for kids from 10 to 100.
The nominations for Best Short Film will be announced in january 2013.
