Stones Have Laws

While Surinamese Maroons show how they live with the rainforest, multinationals exploit the natural resources within these ancestral grounds.

Members of the Surinamese Maroon community shed light on their world. They show us how they live, how they consult their ancestors and how this is all effected with the use of modern tools. In re-enacted scenes and situations, village elders and younger men and women talk about the history of their people and the spirits of the natural world around them. Meanwhile, desolate landscapes paint a grim picture of the far-reaching effects that mineral-hungry multinationals bring.
