MEET THE FOKKENS international hit
30 November 2011
Dutch film MEET THE FOKKENS did very well at Docs for Sale, the international film market at IDFA (International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam), selling to broadcasters in Israel, Sweden and Belgium. Strong interest also has been shown by broadcasters from Germany, France and the United Kingdom, among others. Distributors in the United States and the United Kingdom have indicated that they would like to release the film theatrically, something quite unique for a documentary.
MEET THE FOKKENS had its world premiere at IDFA and was well received by both the international and the national film press. The film reached 5th place in the Audience Award top 20 and was the highest-rated Dutch film at IDFA. The International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam took place from November 16 - 27, 2011.
MEET THE FOKKENS tells the life stories of prostitute twin sisters Martine and Louise Fokkens, who have been in the business for 50 years. The film provides a sometimes hilarious, sometimes distressing peek into the world of paid love.
The film is directed by Gabriëlle Provaas & Rob Schröder. MEET THE FOKKENS is produced by Submarine in co-production with VPRO and is a Teledoc, a collaboration of the CoBO Fund, the Dutch Film Fund and NPO (Dutch Public Broadcasting). The film is distributed in the Netherlands by A-Film Distribution.
