Dutch nominees FOCAL Awards 2014

The FOCAL Awards jury has announced the shortlist of institutions and individuals who have been working in the field of film preservation. Two Dutch nominees have been listed: the Dutch Institute of Sound and Vision and NGN Productions.
Sound and Vision has been nominated in the category Best Archive Restoration for Sound and Vision Treasures. For this intensive restoration and digitization program films were selected of extraordinary importance as a national cultural heritage. These eleven Oscar -nominated or Oscarwinning films by directors such as John Fernhout, Bert Haanstra and Charles Huguenot van der Linden. For the state of the art restorations Sound and Vision also made use of the EYE collection and expertise of EYE restorers. The British AP Archive and the Cineteca di Bologna fellow nominees
Director and producer Berenike Rozgonji and Flip Nagler (NGN Productions) have been nominated for the documentary The Disney or Duivendrecht, a Businessman's Idea of an Artist (2013) in the category Best Use of Footage in an Arts Production.
The film is a portrait of Dutch animation pioneer Joop Geesink (1913-1984), founder of the Geesink Studio, who produced hundreds of commercials for national and international clients between 1946 and 1970. Geesink worked for companies like Philips, Campari, Coca-Cola and Heinz and also covered the commercial markets of Asia, the U.S. and South America. Together with Marten Toonder he is one of the pioneering talents of puppet- and animated films.
The FOCAL jury praised the use of archival footage from by the directors, who previously also made use of the collection and the expertise of EYE , which has one of the largest collections of corporate and animated films in the Netherlands. Also nominated in this category are British Lone Star Productions and the Italian Frenesy Film Company / Kimerafilm.
Winners will be announced on 30 April next . The award ceremony will take place in London.
