Dutch line-up at Braunschweig

28 October 2020

One Dutch feature film and two short films have been selected for this year's edition of Braunschweig International Film Festival, which is taking place 2-8 November 2020.

Rogier Hesp's first feature film Gold (prod: BALDR Film) will be competing for the Audience Award and the Volkswagen Financial Services Award. The film previously has been selected for the International Film Festival Rotterdam and the Music & Cinema Aubagne International Film Festival.

In Gold promising young gymnast Timo and his disabled father Ward share a big dream, to win Olympic gold. But when Timo meets physiotherapist Irene, he experiences new and intense feelings conflicting with Timo's dedication to his father and the Olympic ‘mission'.

Dutch shorts Cuckoo! and Sad Beauty are selected for the Short Films programme.

Cuckoo!, directed by Jörgen Scholtens (prod: Team Tonger), previously screened at Go Short International Short Film Festival and Reykjavik International Film Festival. A lonely man lives inside a cuckoo clock and is catapulted out of his tiny house every hour to yell ‘Cuckoo!'.

And lastly, Sad Beauty, directed and produced by Arjen Brentjes, was previously nominated for Best Animation Short at Raindance 2020. A young woman is mourning the disappearance of animal species in a heavily polluted world. When she falls ill due to a bacterial infection, nature appears to send her a message in her hallucinations.
