Dutch films at Brooklyn festival
At the 13th Brooklyn In Film Festival (BiFF) five films from the Netherlands are selected. The competitive event will run from June 4-13.
The feature film WIN/WIN (83 min, 2009) directed by Jaap van Heusden will have it US premiere at the festival, van Heusden will be in New York to present his film. The film premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam. Previously van Heusden made A COMPLICATED STORY, SIMPLY TOLD (2005), which was shortlisted for the Student Academy Award and was selected for the Cinefondation section of the Cannes festival. His short documentary ANDERMAN was warmly received by the press and selected for the Tribeca film festival and AFI Silverdocs.
WIN/WIN is produced by IJswater Films in coproduction with NPS television. During the credit crunch a playful nobody at a famous investment bank becomes a successful trader overnight. As hes gradually becoming estranged from himself, he still seems unable to lose...
Also at the Brooklyn Intl Film Festival are the short RETEP (4 min, 2009) directed by Mathijs Geijskes. Peter, 42 years old, suffers from an early midlife crises... or does he sees things different from reality?
The documentary HIGGS, INTO THE HEART OF IMAGINATION (54 min, 2009) directed by Hannie van den Bergh and Jan van den Berg, produced by Viewpoint Productions and sales by Ilumina Films.
HIGGS is a documentary about the quest for the Higgs particle, also known as The God Particle. It is considered the missing link in particle physics. HIGGS is a film about the curiosity, the passion and the imaginative power of science.
The experimental film AFTER THE WATER THE CLOUDS (9 min, 2009) directed and produced by Carmen Rozestraten. Playful and poetic voyage of a young Catalan woman whose world becomes more and more surreal as she encounters mythical and unusual characters.
And the short animated co-production BARBEE BUTCHER (1 min, 2008) directed and produced by Sophie Laguës. A greenish clay creature cuts a Barbie doll into pieces with the aim of turning itself into a femme fatale.... with unexpected results.
