WINTER IN WARTIME was a big hit in the Netherlands, it attracted 850.000 visitors, and it was the official Dutch entry into the 2010 Academy Awards. Sony Pictures Classics acquired the US rights for the film when it was shortlisted for the foreign-language Oscar. However, WINTER IN WARTIME did not receive a nomination in the end.
WINTER IN WARTIME takes place during the last cold winter of the Second World War in the Netherlands. Suddenly 14-year-old Michiel becomes responsible for the care of a British pilot. This turns out to be more dangerous than he could ever imagine.
