Strong Dutch presence at Berlinale

January 20, 2012

A large number of films from the Netherlands has been selected for the upcoming edition of the Berlin International Film Festival (February 9 – 19). Holland scores high with no less than 6 feature films and 3 shorts included in the Berlinale this year.

In Competition - Generation
Dutch cinema is especially strongly represented in the competitive Generation programme. KAUWBOY, Boudewijn Koole’s first feature film (produced by Waterland Film), and TAKING CHANCES by Nicole van Kilsdonk (produced by Lemming Film) compete for a Crystal Bear in the Generation Kplus section. In the same section the short films BROTHER by Sacha Polak (Lemming Film), PAPA’S TANGO by Michiel van Jaarsveld (IJswater Films) and THE PATH OF A HARE by Lotte van Elsacker are in the race for a Crystal Bear for Best Short Film.

SNACKBAR by Meral Uslu (Lemming Film) is included in the Generation 14plus section.

Forum
Sacha Polak’s first feature film HEMEL (produced by Circe Films) about a girl who is looking for the difference between sex and love is included in FORUM. Polak’s short BROTHER is part of the Generation programme.

Also selected for FORUM is the Rumanian/Dutch co-production EVERYBODY IN OUR FAMILY by Radu Jude (NL producer: Circe Films).

Berlinale Special
Klaartje Quirijn’s documentary ANTON CORBIJN INSIDE OUT will be screened at the Festival under the auspices of the Berlinale Special. Subject of Quirijn’s film, Dutch photographer Anton Corbijn is one of the members of the Berlinale’s International Jury this year.
