Success for Dutch films at Berlinale 2012

February 20, 2012

Last weekend two Dutch feature films KAUWBOY and HEMEL were awarded at the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival.

Director Boudewijn Koole had a fantastic debut at the Berlinale. His film KAUWBOY, which was selected for the Generation Kplus section, won two important awards. Koole received the Best First Feature Award, which is given to the best debut film from the Competition, Panorama, Forum, Pespektive Deutsches Kino and Generation sections by GWFF, an organisation dedicated to safeguarding film and television rights. The prize is endowed with €50.000 to be split between the producer and the director of the film.
KAUWBOY also won the Grand Prix of the Deutsches Kinderhilfswerk for the best youth film. The prize was awarded by an international expert jury and is worth €7,500.

Koole's first feature film is produced by Waterland Film.

HEMEL, directed by Sacha Polak, received the award for Best Film in the Forum section from the FIPRESCI jury of the international critics' association. The film is produced by Circe Films and co-produced by VPRO, Bella Cohen Films and Jaleo Films (ES).

Polak’s short BROTHER (produced by Lemming Film) was selected for the Generation 14plus programme.

The Berlin International Film Festival took place from February 9 – 19, 2012.
