REGRET nominee EFA Young Audience Award

March 31, 2014

Dutch feature film Regret! by director Dave Schram, writers Maria Peters and Dick van den Heuvel and produced by Shooting Star Filmcompany, is nominated for the 2014 EFA Young Audience Award. The other two contenders are The Contest by Martin Miehe-Renard (Denmark) and Windstorm by Katja von Garnier (Germany).

The EFA Young Audience Award is organized for the third consecutive year. In both 2012 and 2013 the prize went to Dutch films: Kauwboy by Boudewijn Koole and The Zigzag Kid by Vincent Bal.

Regret!
has been very successful at international film festivals and has already won many awards, including the Gryphon for Best Film at the Giffoni Film Festival (Italy), the Camerio Award for Best Feature 13+ and Audience Award at the Carousell International du Film de Rimouski (Quebec, Canada) and recently the Young People’s Film Award at the Malmö International Children's and Young People's Film Festival - BUFF (Sweden).

Regret! is about Jochem, who is bullied by his classmates all the time. His friend David doesn't join in, but he is scared to say anything. On the face of it Jochem doesn't seem to let the harrassment get to him, but one morning the headmaster tells the class that he didn't come home after a party. David feels guilty. Together with a friend, he sets out to find Jochem and tell him they are sorry. But during their search, they find Jochem’s bagpack in a lake…

On May 5, Young Audience Film Day, the three nominated films will be screened to an audience of 12 -14 year olds in seventeen European cities:
Aalborg (Denmark), Barcelona (Spain), Belgrado (Serbia), Bratislava (Slovakia), Budapest (Hungary), Cluj-Napoca (Rumania), Erfurt (Germany), Izola (Slovenia), London (UK), Prizren (Kosovo), Riga (Latvia), Sofia (Bulgaria), Stockholm (Sweden), Tbilisi (Georgia), Tel Aviv (Israël), Valletta (Malta) and Wroclaw (Poland). Afterwards the audience in each city votes for the winner, which is streamed live online.
