Junkyard keeps winning

The Dutch animated short Junkyard by Hisko Hulsing has won yet another award. At the Seoul International Cartoon and Animation Festival (SICAF, July 24 - 28) it received the Grand Prize for Best Short Film.

Junkyard, produced and distributed by il Luster Productions, has already been selected for over 80 film festivals worldwide. Since the film premiered at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival 2012 it has travelled the world. The animation has been screened at festivals in countries across four continents while picking up many awards. The prize won at SICAF is the nineteenth so far. Other awards include the Grand Prize at the Ottawa International Animation Festival, Audience Award at the Stuttgart Festival of Animated Films, VNAP Craftsmanship Award and Grand Prix Dutch Animation at the Holland Animation Film Festival, Animation Jury’s Grand Prix–Magnolia Award at the Shanghai TV Festival and the Audience Award at the Asheville Cinema Festival. Junkyard also was the official Dutch entry for the Oscar for Best Animated Short 2013.

In Junkyard a man is being robbed and stabbed by a junkie and in that last second before he dies, a youth friendship flashes before his eyes. He and his bosom friend grew apart, when the latter was being drawn more and more into a misty world of drugs and criminality under influence of a lowlife dealer who lives with his father on the junkyard in their neighbourhood.
The film is created by using 2d and 3d animation techniques layered over large oilpainted backgrounds.
