Heddy Honigmann’s Oblivion distributed theatrically in USA

Oblivion, the latest documentary feature by award-winning filmmaker Heddy Honigmann, will be released theatrically in major cities throughout the United States by Icarus Films. The film will open at New York’s Film Forum on April 15, 2009.

Born in Peru’s capital city of Lima, and living in Amsterdam, Heddy Honigmann is one of the world’s foremost documentary filmmakers. She was honoured for her work with the Hot Docs Outstanding Achievement Award (2007) and the San Fransisco Film Society's Golden Gate Persistence of Vision Award (2007).

In Oblivion Honigmann returns to Peru, where she introduces us to some of the poorest but hardest-working citizens of Lima and its startling contrasts of wealth and poverty.

Following Oblivion's premiere in September 2008 at the San Sebastian International Film Festival, the documentary film received many international awards, including the prize for Best Director at the DOCNZ International Documentary Film Festival in New Zealand; the Eurodok Distribution Award at the Eurodok Film Festival in Oslo and the Silver Dove, the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury and the FIPRESCI prize at the Leipzig International Festival for Documentary and Animated Films (DOK Leipzig).

Oblivion is produced by Carmen Cobos of Cobos Films in co-production with IKON and ZDF and in cooperation with ARTE. The sales of the film are handled by Films Transit International.

To coincide with the theatrical premiere of Oblivion , Icarus Films will release a special-edition DVD of Heddy Honigmann’s previous, critically-acclaimed documentary feature, Forever, for the home-video market on April 21, 2009.
