Dutch short films selected for Berlin 2010

January 13, 2010

The short documentary DRONA & ME by Catherine van Campen, JACCO'S FILM by Daan Bakker, O QUAM TRISTIS by Maite Abella and the Dutch-Romanian co-production COLIVIA / THE CAGE by Adrian Sitaru are selected for the 60th edition of the Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale ). The festival will take place from February 11 to 21, 2010.

DRONA & ME and JACCO'S FILM will both screen in the Generation Kplus program, Berlin’s competition program for youth films. A youth jury will determine which film will be awarded a Crystal Bear, the prize for the best international youth film.

Drona&Me

DRONA & ME, a Zuidenwind Film Production, shows the little boy Drona suffering from autism. Drona adores buses and has only one clear goal in life: to become the driver of bus line 192. DRONA & ME premiered during the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) in November 2009. The film is also selected for the International Sprout Film Festival that will take place in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York in April 2010. Sprout Film shows the best international films about people with disabilities. One World - International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival in Prague will screen DRONA & ME as well in March 2010.

Jacco's film

Director Daan Bakker graduated this year from the Netherlands Film and Television Academy with JACCO'S FILM, in which 10-year old Jacco gives insight into his colourful imagination. That his parents are constantly fighting does not seem to bother him. For the first time in 17 years the Berlinale selected a Dutch student graduation production from the Netherlands Film and Television Academy.

O QUAM TRISTIS by Spanish-Dutch filmmaker Maite Abella is selected for the FORUM program in Berlin, the most experimental part of the festival with very original, often provocative and disturbing films. O QUAM TRISTIS is a psychological drama about a mother and a daughter who are always fighting. Inspired by the old American westerns, a physical battle could be the way to solve their problems.

Colivia

COLIVIA / THE CAGE by Adrian Sitaru, produced by Dutch Kaliber Film together with Romanian 4Proof Film, is selected for the short film competition in Berlin and competes for a Golden Bear. When Mihaes's little boy brings home a sick dove this rises new conflicts between father and son, but also a possible reconciliation. COLIVIA / THE CAGE is part of the feature film DOMESTIC, which is still in development.
